Every year several Pauole Sport athletes qualify for Ironman Hawaii. They earn the opportunity to race amongst the best triathletes in the world at the Ironman World Championships.  This year the following athletes will be racing in Kona. 

 

Road to Kona 2010

 

John Bergen John qualified for the Ironman World Championships for the second time.  In April, he secured his qualifying slot for Kona 2010 at the very challenging Ironman Australia.  John had an outstanding race of 9:47:50!!  He started his race with an exceptionally strong swim (53:18).  He rode consistent and smart on a very hilly and rough bike course (5:19:13).  Staying focused and strong on the run,  John moved himself up in his age-group, with a solid 3:30:30 marathon.  John executed a fantastic race and earned a well deserved Kona slot.  We are all very proud and happy for him and look forward to seeing him race again in Hawaii!

 

Cathleen Knutson - Cathleen is a first time Ironman World Championship qualifier and earned her qualifying slot at Ironman Coeur D'Alene.  Cathleen started her amazing performance with a huge swim PR (1:13:37) and the fastest bike split in her age group (5:32:18) and then ran a very strong marathon (3:51:08).  Cathleen executed a perfect race and placed 1st in her age group with a time of 10:42:03!  She has improved year after year and her hard work and dedication to reaching her goals paid off.  We are all proud and happy for Cathleen and look forward to seeing her race in Kona!

 

Lisa Walker –  Lisa qualified for the Ironman World Championships for the third time.  She secured her qualifying slot at Ironman Coeur D'Alene.  Lisa had an outstanding race and placed 3rd in her age-group with a time of 11:29:48!  She started her race with a great swim (1:04:26), she biked (6:17:10) and moved her way up with a very strong run and the fastest marathon split in her age-group (4:01:30).  Lisa executed a fantastic race and we are excited to be supporting her in Kona!

 

Brian Dillon - This will be Brian’s first time racing at Ironman Hawaii.  He was one of the lucky 150 lottery winners this year!  Brian has raced at several Half Ironman’s including Wildflower and Boise 70.3.  He has also completed in many 50K’s and completed the Mountain to Sound race twice.  Brian is very excited to compete in Kona and looks forward to finishing his first Ironman in October.

 

 

Road to Kona 2009

 

Hallie Truswell – Hallie is a first time Ironman World Championship qualifier.  She secured her Ironman slot at Ironman Australia in April.  Hallie had an outstanding race and placed 3rd in her age-group with a time of 11:23:07!  The long and grueling hours that she put in at the pool, on the bike trainer and in the cold rainy weather paid off as her swim, bike and run splits were all very strong.  Hallie started her race off with a blazing fast swim of 56:21!! We are all very proud of Hallie and her accomplishments and we are excited to see her race in Kona!

 

Teresa Nelson – Teresa qualified for the Ironman World Championships for the second time in a row.  In May she raced at St. Croix 70.3, one of the toughest Half Ironman’s around, and won her age group with a time of 5:06:26!  She had an exceptional race and her swim and bike splits were right up with the professional women.  Her hard work and dedication all winter paid off and we look forward to supporting Teresa in Kona!

 

Robin Sayed - Robin is a first time Ironman Hawaii qualifier.  She earned her qualifying slot in June at Ironman Coeur D'Alene.  She had a fantastic race and placed 3rd in her age group with a time of 10:57:27! Robin’s focus on the bike paid off with the fastest bike split in her age group of 5:35:16.  Her dedication in her training is impressive with all of her other responsibilities.  Robin is a mother of 2 and works full time.  We are looking forward to seeing Robin race in Hawaii!

 

Aaron Burby – Aaron is a first time Ironman World Championship qualifier.  He earned his qualifying slot at the always challenging Ironman Canada.  Aaron had an exceptionally strong race season leading up to Canada with outstanding performances at Escape from Alcatraz and New Balance Half Ironman.  Aaron started his qualifying performance with a superb swim split (1:00:52) and a very strong bike leg (5:22:33).  He stayed strong and focused on the run and finished in 10:05:40!  Aaron has improved year after year and his exceptional work ethic and passion for reaching his goals paid off with a well deserved opportunity to race in Kona!  We are all extremely proud and happy for Aaron and look forward to seeing him race again in October!

 

Greg Pelton - This will be Greg’s first time racing at the World Championships in Kona.  Greg was one of the lucky 150 lottery winners this year! Greg has raced at Ironman Arizona and Ironman Grand Columbian.  He has also completed countless Half Ironman races.  Greg had an exceptionally strong race this year at the Satsop Sprint Triathlon where he won the race!  Greg is very deserving of the Ironman Hawaii lottery slot and we look forward to seeing him run down Ali’i drive
